A couple of weeks ago, Apple announced the new M2 MacBook Air 2022 release date on 15th July 2022 at their event, and ever since I have been scratching my head trying to answer one question: who is this machine for. Let’s ramble. After a long period of two years, we have the new MacBook Air 2022 with M2 Chips. And it’s one of the first machines to come with a brand-new M2 Silicone Chip. And that’s of course exciting stuff.
The M1 chip has been an absolute game-changer, not only for Apple, but also for the entire computing industry. So to see that new MacBook Air powered by the bigger and better successor of the amazing M1 Chip will make any apple user get that sparkle in their eye. And I don’t think it’s just MacBook Air users that are looking to upgrade from an older machine.

Now, if you are considering upgrading from an Intel MacBook Air, I think now would be a great time to do so. Whether it’s Apple throttling those machines or whether the Apple Silicons Chips are just that much better. It is clear that the Intel machines have fallen behind in many ways, and it’s probably a good idea to upgrade to Apple Silicone. But do you need the M2 MacBook Air 2022, or will the M1 serve you just fine for the next few years to come, so you can save yourself some cash?

Both models have 8-core CPUs and the M2 models offer a 10-core GPU as well as offering more unified memory. The M1 tops out at 16 gigs of RAM and I know that has been an issue for some people and those users will be happy about the 8 extra gigs of unified memory. But there is a compelling case to be made for the M1 MacBook Air, and that has to do with the price. The M1 Models are available on the Apple Store, starting at $999 for the base model. And to be able to buy a powerful M1 computer for one grand under the price of an iPad Pro is pretty great. So if budget is an important factor for you, and you are looking to save some cash, but you want to get into that Apple Silicone World. Just get the M1 MacBook Air and be happy for at least a couple of years to come.
The M2 MacBook Air 2022 will be an enticing option, however the price could be an issue in my opinion. The base model should start at a lower price and if you want those premium options, we talked about earlier you are looking at a hefty bill let’s make a simulation so bumping up the M2 MacBook Air to 24 gigs of ram will add $400 to your final price tag and if you want that full terabyte of storage that will set you back another 600 bucks which bring the total to $2500.
The Final Verdict
I think that the M2 MacBook Air 2022 with M2 Chips has grabbed the attention of a new potential user base that has never used a MacBook Air before. The MacBook Air 2022 Pre-order will start a week earlier on July 8, 2022. So get ready to buy an exclusive product, there might be a big rush.
